Refresher Courses

A Message from our Education Chair:

Last year (2005) I visited all of the sections of ASQ in southern California, Las Vegas, and Phoenix to give talks.   I found that only the Orange County section, and our Palomar section, consistently provide a Tech Clinic in addition to the main program.

We all know that the purpose of attending ASQ monthly meetings, in addition to networking, is to benefit by learning new techniques, and new experiences.  With the Tech Clinic session, the benefits are not limited to learning; the attendee also gets 0.6 RU (Recertification Units) instead of 0.3, which he/she would receive with the main program only.

The speakers for the Tech Clinics mostly come from our own membership.  So I encourage you, our members, to volunteer and give a tech clinic talk to not only share your knowledge and experiences with our other members, but to benefit by being awarded an additional 1 RU for each talk you give, not to mention that you are gaining some great experience in public speaking.

Our customer is you, the member of ASQ, so I would like to hear from you, including what kind of service(s) we can provide to better yourself and the section as a whole.  I can be reached at (858) 683-0968, or by email at shin@lynxsys.net.

Thanks!

Shin Ta Liu

PS:

  1. I have a book review link, which compiles some of the book reviews I have done for Quality Progress and Technometrics Magazine.  If you would like to contribute to this list, please let me know.
  2. Earlier this year (2006) we conducted a CQE refresher course which received a very enthusiastic response.  I need to hear from you on what course(s) we should organize to satisfy your needs.  Our neighbor section 703 (San Diego) also provides a very good education program; you may look into their Web Site for your needs as well.
