An Industry Roundtable Discussion

Lean/Six Sigma applications in the Medical Device manufacturing
industry
A
presentation will be given on Lean Tools commonly used by recognized leaders in
business processes. Details of tool implementation along with examples will be
reviewed. The application of Kaizen, Mistake Proofing (Poka
Yoke), Value Stream Mapping, and 5S’s will be addressed. Breakout discussion
groups will follow the presentation with the goal of good, open exchange of
ideas on utilization of these concepts in the device/pharmaceutical industries.
Discussion Leader: Larry Bartkus
Larry
Bartkus is currently Master Black Belt, Business
Excellence for Biosense Webster, a Johnson &
Johnson company. He is a Certified Quality Engineer and Six Sigma Master Black
Belt with over thirty five years experience in the Quality profession. He holds
a degree in Chemistry from Montclair State University
in New Jersey.
Larry has been guest speaker at The Society of Plastics Engineers, Society of
Manufacturing Engineers, APICS, and ASQ. He is a past Chairman of ASQ Section
702 and has served on the Executive Board for over twenty years now. He was an
instructor for several CQE Refresher Courses and has conducted seminars in
Process Control, Statistical Sampling, and Design of Experiments.
This
Roundtable Discussion will utilize the synergy of our well-versed Subject
Matter Expert along with your Regional Industry Peers. Please submit your

This function is presented by
the Southern California Discussion Group of the ASQ Biomedical Division, in
the Temecula/Inland Empire area.
Quality
performance metrics visually represent relevant data and provide a means
by which to convert information into results. Diane Kulisek will provide an overview of Balanced
Scorecards and Quality Dashboards as they relate to Strategic Quality
Planning, share links to popular on-line references relating to these
topics, and summarize Quality Management System guidelines and regulatory
requirements pertaining to Quality Planning and Metrics. She will
review examples of Scorecards and Dashboards while providing insight,
based upon her own experience, about how organizations can apply these
tools to achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction, waste reduction,
and continual improvement. On-line access to a free editable
Quality Planning Procedure, as well as Scorecard and Dashboard templates,
will also be included with this presentation.
Discussion
Leader: Diane
Kulisek
Diane Kulisek has over 30 years of
practical experience within the Quality profession and is President of CAPAtrak, LLC, a contract provider of quality
assurance and regulatory compliance leadership, services, and
solutions. She has held key management positions within the
consumer products, aerospace, and biomedical industries, most recently as
Vice President of Quality and Regulatory Affairs for Spectrum
Laboratories. Her career has included 8 years within the
Gillette Company, culminating in Manager of Quality Engineering at
Gillette’s Product Development Laboratory in the Santa Monica Manufacturing
Center, and 9 years
within Rockwell International, culminating with her role as Associate
Product Manager for Avionics & Controls on NASA’s Space Shuttle Main
Engine Program. Diane is currently a Deputy Regional Director
within the American Society for Quality (Southwest, Region 7), Chair of
the Quality Advocacy Committee for the San Fernando Valley Section of ASQ, and Chair-Elect for the Food, Drug and Cosmetic
Division of ASQ. She is recognized by ASQ as a Certified
Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence and as a Certified Quality
Engineer.
